In 1999, the Food and Drug Administration warned that shoulder pain pumps had severe side effects. One associated side effect of using a defective pain pump is a condition called post arthroscopic glenohumeral chondrolysis. Doctors have used post-operative pain pumps especially those made by Stryker, I-flow Breg and Donjoy. The pump is used to directly distribute a local anesthetic into the shoulder area where surgery was performed.
